JOB SERIES- PART 3
GLORIOUS CONCLUSION OF JOB’S LIFE AFTER ENDURING THE TRIAL
After Job overcame his wife’s temptation, three of his friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Sophar, came to console and comfort him after Satan tormented him with sore boil all over his body. Job’s friends were even more older than his father, at least, one who had expect that such old men should be men full of experience and wisdom. But reverse is the case, they each at a certain point claimed that Job’s present predicament came upon him as a result of the secret sins he had earlier committed. They condemned Job as a sinner without making proper investigation into the cause of his predicament.
Job’s three friends were ignorant that it is possible that a righteous man could suffer at times. God allows the suffering to teach us a lesson at a certain point in our life. Why do righteous people fall sick? Why do Christians involve in a fatal accident when God has promised them safety? The moment you provide answer to the entire “why?” God seizes to be God.
Though, Job at a certain time charges God foolishly, forgetting that his own sins even by far merited greater punishment than the one he got. But on pointing him to his folly, he quickly admitted it, and pleaded for forgiveness. Christians are to quickly admit and amend their wrongs whenever they are pointed to it and not in any way try to defend their wrongs.
I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42: 5-6
The Lord seriously rebuked the friends of Job because their comments really displeased the Lord. The comments and the advice they gave to Job did not in any way glorify the Lord.
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. Job 42: 7
Job had spoken rightly in relation to them and their argument, denying their theory, and the fact which they alleged, that he was peculiarly guilty and a hypocrite; but wrongly in relation to God, when he fell into the opposite extreme of almost denying all guilt. This extreme he has now repented of, and therefore God speaks of him as now altogether right. Since the Lord will never leave a sinner to rot in his sinful state, so he made a way of escape for the three friends of Job.
Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. Job 42: 8
Job’s friends complied with what the Lord told them to do.
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before Job 42: 10
In the beginning of this story we had Job's patience under his troubles, for an example; here, for our encouragement to follow that example, we have his happy end. His troubles began in Satan's malice, which God restrained; his restoration began in God's mercy, which Satan could not oppose. Mercy did not return when Job was disputing with his friends, but when he was praying for them.
God is served and pleased with our warm devotions, not with our warm disputes. God doubled Job's possessions. We may lose much for the Lord, but we shall not lose anything by him. Whether the Lord gives us health and temporal blessings or not, if we patiently suffer according to his will, in the end we shall be happy. Job's estate increased. The blessing of the Lord makes rich; it is he that gives us power to get wealth, and gives success in honest endeavours.
The last days of a good man sometimes prove his best, his last works his best works, his last comforts his best comforts; for his path, like that of the morning light, shines more and more unto the perfect day. Believers should endeavour to pray for their sinful and backslidden friends for their salvation and restoration back into the family of God.
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. He had also seven sons and three daughters. Job 42: 12-13
God made him twice as rich in cattle as he was before, and gave him as many children as he had taken from him.
