10 MAJOR REASONS Why We Should Pray in Tongues!
I hope this teaching will encourage you to believe God to be baptized in the Holy Ghost, with the gift of speaking in tongues.
#1 It authenticates, substantiates, and verifies God's presence.
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16 proclaims these signs, including tongues. This is the evidence of the presence and power of Holy Ghost. In the old covenant the manifestation of God’s presence was a Fire by night, and a cloud by day.But now in the New Testament, the evidence of the spirit of God and rolling his tabernacle is the gift of tongues.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
The fire by night and the cloud by day has been replaced and this dispensation with tongues of men and of angels. This is the proof and evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
#2 A supernatural means of communicating directly to God.
1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh. … :27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
This God-given prayer language is like an invisible supernatural umbilical cord of divine fellowship linking us directly to the Heavenly Father.
*another amazing reality is that the devil cannot and does not understand what you are praying, therefore the demonic world cannot interfere, hinder or obstruct your prayers like he did to Daniel.
Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
#3 When you pray in tongues you are praying the perfect mind and will of God.
ROM 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(The Holy Ghost who knows all things, can pray through us about things which our natural mind knows nothing about.)
*Praying in the Holy Ghost, tongues also eliminates the possibility of selfishness entering into our prayers, or wrong praying which is out of line with the Word and the will of God!
#4 It is a wonderful way of praising and giving thanks to God.
1 Cor14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
Paul says that when you sing in tongues you are giving thanks and praise to God. This is something that you should practice on a daily basis.
#5 Helps us to become God inside conscious.
As you pray in his heavenly language it will cause you to become God inside mine did. In your heart you know that it is not truly you speaking, but the spirit of God within you. This is definitely going to affect the way you live.
"We have a tendency of forgetting the Greater One in us."
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
#6 Spiritual edifies us, beyond the physical or mental realm.
1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
(Praying in tongues enriches, cultivates, develops, improves us spiritually) *Out of your belly - a flowing stream that should never dry up.
John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
#7 It is a refreshment, from turmoil, perplexity, insecurity.
ISA 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Praying in the Holy Ghost will bring you into a place of rest and refreshment, in your walk with God. The Scripture says that it will free you from turmoil, perplexity, insecurity. It brings tranquility, relaxation, restoration and spiritual reviving in your heart. It invigorates and renews your walk with God. A tremendous spiritual pick-me-up you might say.
#8 Keeps our bodies under the control of the Holy Spirt.
James 3:1My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.
The Tongue is a rudder and bridle of our human body, mind and emotions.
#9 Teaches you how to yield yourself to God, thereby opening the door for the other gifts to flow.
Because it is considered one of the least of the gifts, it is like stepping stones into the deeper realms of the spirit.
"It is a major KEY to the MANIFESTATION of the GIFTS of the Holy Ghost"
#10 It charges, fortifies, stimulates, invigorates your faith.
This last particular point about the purpose of praying in your heavenly language needs to be dealt with in much greater detail.
*Praying in the Holy Ghost is one of the greatest spiritual exercises there is. Takes faith to pray in, believe it is accomplishing, etc. Prepares us for whatever the future holds in store for us. Gets us ready.
Jude 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
If you will study this Scripture in other translations it declares that we must fortify, strengthen, and establish our most holy faith! How do we do this? By praying in the Holy Ghost. I do not believe this is only speaking about praying in the gift of tongues which you received when you received the baptism in the Holy Ghost. But it is also speaking about the Holy Ghost leading you in your prayer time. The spirit of the Lord himself will put the words into your mouth that need to be spoken.
2 Samuel 23:2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
Psalm 45:1......my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
When you build yourself up in your most holy faith, this spiritual response is that it will take a hold of the holiness of God, it takes a hold of the will of God, and it takes a hold of the character and the divine nature of God. There is a teaching that I have done which reveals 10 biblical benefits that take place when you pray in tongues! Out of the 10 gifts of the Holy Ghost revealed within the Scriptures, tongues is one of the simplest that Christ has given to the church. This tongues that I’m referring to is not the same diversity tongues that needs to be interpreted. It is your own personal prayer language that the Holy Ghost will give you to communicate to God.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The exercising of this God-given language opens the door wide for the manifestation of the other 9 gifts of the spirit. It takes faith to believe that God is speaking through you in this super natural language which sometimes sounds like baby talk. I asked the Lord one time why would he give his people a language that sounded ridiculous? He spoke to my heart and said I do it to humble my people. You must be as a child to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
